For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

for if you are living according to the flesh, you must (are about to) die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.

For if you live according to [the dictates of] the flesh, you will surely die. But if through the power of the [Holy] Spirit you are [habitually] putting to death (making extinct, deadening) the [evil] deeds prompted by the body, you shall [really and genuinely] live forever.

For, assuming that you are living habitually under the dominion of the sinful nature, you are on the way to dying. But, assuming that by the Spirit you are habitually putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Indeed that way of living leads to certain spiritual death. But if on the other hand you cut the nerve of your instinctive actions by obeying the Spirit, you will live.

for if you live by such a standard, you are going to die, but if by the Spirit you put a stop to (literally, put to death) the doings of your lower nature, you will live.
