Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

So also faith, if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead).

thus also, the aforementioned faith, if it does not keep on having works, is dead in its very constituent elements.

Yet that is exactly what a bare faith without a corresponding life is like - quite dead.

So faith by itself, if it has no deeds to back it up, is dead.
