And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend (overpower) it.

The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood (overcome) it.
